Peter Tolan See play(s)
Peter Tolan is a celebrated writer, producer, composer, lyricist, and performer. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Tolan spent his years as a writer and performer at Dudley Rigg’s Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis. He moved to New York soon after, where he worked as a playwright. He wrote and performed in the Off-Broadway show LAUGHING MATTERS, and was named the best lyricist of a Broadway or Off-Broadway show by the Burns Mantle Theater Yearbook’s “The Best Plays of 1989-1990” for that production. His other plays include the one-acts BEST HALF FOOT FORWARD, PILLOW TALK, and STAY CARL STAY, all published in a collection by Dramatists Play Service, Inc. As a television writer and producer, Tolan’s credits include “Murphy Brown,” for which he won an Emmy; “Home Improvement”; “Style and Substance”; and “The Larry Sanders Show,” for which he received six Cable ACE awards, a second Emmy, and the prestigious Peabody Award. His screenplays include “My Fellow Americans,” “Analyze This,” “What Planet are You From?” and “Bedazzled.” Other projects include the television series “The Job” and a television movie version of the musical “Mame” starring Cher. Tolan's films include "Stealing Stanford,” “America’s Sweethearts” (starring Julia Roberts), and “It Started with Eve” (starring Hugh Grant).
