The Government Inspector (Myles) - ePublication
THE STORY: THE STORY: Gogol’s most-produced comedy has been adapted to a provincial town in the United Kingdom during World War II, whose governor and other government officials grift their constituents at every possible moment. When leadership gets word London has sent a government inspector to make sure the local officials’ work is up to snuff, they misread snobby rich kid Percy’s sense of entitlement as authority and mistakenly label him the inspector. Percy collects plenty of bribes and a new notch on his belt before he leaves while the getting is good to ensure his safety. This adaptation of The Government Inspector pairs Gogol’s unfortunately timeless story with a terribly witty and specific British flair.
